You don’t remember individual mobile numbers. Instead, you go to your contacts app and call it by their names.
The contacts app allows people to input everyday words without having to keep track of the individual mole number.
This is the exact same thing DNS does for the internet. Domain Name System
Computers address each other with numbers called IP addresses, which ultimately use ARP for MAC address resolution.
However, remembering IP addresses is not an easy task for humans. We prefer to give things named URLs or UNC’s.But computers don’t understand names, they enjoy 1’s and 0’s, or numbers. Again, IP addresses and MAC addresses.
That is where DNS comes into play. DNS is a system that ties names to IP addresses. DNS automatically converts the names we type in our web browser address bar to the IP addresses of web services for those specific sites requested.
